BRIEF
An Edwardian holiday home undergoing a complete renovation to be used as a holiday home.
The vibe was to feel luxurious and ‘boutique hotel’ suiting a holiday home location and usage
Existing bathroom had very high ceilings but was small, cluttered and dated with poor positioning of toilet meaning soil pipe took up precious space and created difficulty flushing
Client wished for:
A deep bath she could sit in and a shower
Japanese aesthetic with bamboo textures and a warm and colourful, but light palette
More space if possible
Storage could be kept minimal due to use as a holiday home
Solution:
A deep Japanese-style bath with overhead rain shower
A few extra feet were pinched from a large double room adjacent to create an L-shape that the new bath could tuck into to create a cosy niche
The entrance doorway was moved to allow repositioning of the toilet to the opposite wall to create a straight line to the soil stack, freeing up a lot of floor space and improving the plumbing
A niche for shower products was created with discrete lighting in the new partition wall (with service access from the adjoining bedroom) to keep bath surfaces clutter-free
A vanity with counter top basin was wall hung to free up floor space
Diagonal corner tiling (bamboo print around bath area and fluted wood effect around toilet) added texture, balance and zoning to enhance feeling of space
A simple pendant above the toilet and a backlit mirror (in addition to niche lighting), bring cosy lighting down to eye level to balance high ceiling
